Method
Balsamic Mayo Preparation
- 1
Make the Balsamic Mayo
In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth and set aside.
Tumbleweed Onions Preparation
- 2
Prepare the Tumbleweed Onions
Slice the large onion into thin rings and separate them into individual rings. Soak the onion rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- 3
Coat the Onions
In a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge them in the flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 4
Fry the Onions
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated onion rings in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Burger Assembly
- 5
Cook the Bacon
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the applewood bacon until crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain.
- 6
- 7
Toast the Buns
While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
- 8
Assemble the Burger
Spread balsamic mayo on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add the cooked burger patty, crispy bacon, blue cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato slices, marinated red onion, and finally top with tumbleweed onions. Place the top half of the bun on the burger.
