Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick fries. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well-combined.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

  4. 4

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the cut potatoes to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy (about 5-7 minutes). Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Fry the Fish

Dredge each fish fillet in the remaining flour, then dip into the batter. Carefully place in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the hazy fish and chips hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
