Preparation
Prepare the Coffee
Brew strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using, stir in the Marsala wine.
Separate the Eggs
Carefully separate the egg yolks from the whites. Make sure there is no yolk in the whites.
Beat the Egg Yolks
In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and thick.
Add Mascarpone and Vanilla
Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture. Gently fold until well combined.
Assembly
Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular or square dish, arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
Repeat the Layers
Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture. Smooth the top with a spatula.
Chilling and Serving
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Garnish and Serve
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings.
