Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until just combined.
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
Pour Batter into Pans
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Bake the Cakes
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
Prepare the Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
Add Vanilla
Stir in the vanilla extract until thoroughly combined.
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
Serve
Slice the cake and serve it to your guests. Enjoy!
