Cheese Curds
Method
Preparation
Prep the Cheese Curds
Start by rinsing the fresh cheese curds under cold water to remove any excess salt. Pat them dry with paper towels and set aside.
Prepare the Breading Station
In a shallow dish, place the all-purpose flour mixed with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. In another shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk. In a third shallow dish, add the bread crumbs.
Breading and Frying
Bread the Cheese Curds
Take each cheese curd and coat it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg and buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the bread crumbs until fully coated. Repeat with all cheese curds.
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature using a kitchen thermometer or by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; it should sizzle and brown quickly.
Serve
Once all cheese curds are fried, serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or marinara sauce.
