Blood Orange, Rosemary, Candied Sourdough

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Blood Oranges

Slice the blood oranges into thin rounds. Remove any seeds and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Candied Blood Oranges

In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Add the blood orange slices and the sprigs of fresh rosemary. Simmer for about 15 minutes until the oranges become translucent. Remove from heat and let cool in the syrup.

  3. 3

    Toast the Sourdough

In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the slices of sourdough bread and toast on both sides until golden brown. You can add a pinch of salt and black pepper to the butter for additional flavor.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Dish

Once the candied blood oranges have cooled, remove them from the syrup and place them atop the toasted sourdough slices. Drizzle a little of the syrup over the top if desired. Garnish with additional rosemary sprigs.
