Steak Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prep the Steak

Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the steak with salt and black pepper. Use about 1 teaspoon of each for a 1-inch thick steak.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

In a heavy skillet (preferably cast iron), add the olive oil and heat over medium-high heat until the oil is shimmering but not smoking.

  2. 4

    Sear the Steak

Carefully place the ribeye steak in the hot skillet. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to develop a nice crust.

  3. 5

    Add Aromatics

Flip the steak using tongs. Add minced garlic and fresh rosemary to the pan. Cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting the time for your preferred doneness.

  4. 6

    Baste the Steak

Tilt the pan slightly and use a spoon to baste the steak with the hot oil and melted fat from the pan. This adds flavor and moisture.

  5. 7

    Check Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, aim for about 130°F (54°C).

  6. 8

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 9

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the steak against the grain and serve with your favorite sides.
