Cheese Sauce
Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat.
- 2
Cook Macaroni
Add the elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce
- 4
- 5
Add Flour
Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour to create a roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- 6
Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, whisking frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- 7
Add Cheese and Seasonings
Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
Combining
- 8
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni back into the pot with the cheese sauce. Stir well to coat the macaroni evenly with the cheese sauce.
- 9
Serve
Serve the macaroni and cheese warm, garnished with extra cheese or paprika if desired.
