Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This step ensures that the coating adheres properly during frying.
- 2
Cooking
- 3
Bread the Calamari
Dredge each calamari ring first in the flour, shaking off any excess. Then, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off, and finally coat it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping in a small piece of bread; it should sizzle and turn golden brown.
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the calamari and drain on paper towels.
Serving
- 6
Plate and Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with a side of marinara sauce for dipping and lemon wedges for squeezing over the top.
