Potato Preparation

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and scrub the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a kitchen towel.

  2. 2

    Cut the Waffle Fries

Using a waffle cutter or a knife, slice the potatoes into waffle-shaped fries, making sure they are evenly cut for consistent cooking.

  3. 3

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps them to become crispier when fried.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  5. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  6. 6

    Fry the Fries

Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them in batches for about 5-6 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Season the Fries

Once fried, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, paprika, garlic powder, and pepper to taste.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve the waffle fries immediately while hot, with your choice of dipping sauces.
