Method

Prepare the Dough

  1. 1

    Mix the Flour and Water

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of glutinous rice flour with 3 cups of water. Mix until a smooth dough forms, ensuring there are no lumps.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Once the dough is formed, knead it for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and slightly elastic. Cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.

Prepare the Filling

  1. 3

    Mix the Filling Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of red bean paste, 1 cup of ground sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of coconut flakes. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 4

    Shape the Filling

Take small portions of the filling mixture and roll them into balls, about 1 teaspoon in size. Set aside on a plate.

Assemble the Tang Yuan

  1. 5

    Form the Balls

Take a small piece of the dough (about the size of a golf ball) and flatten it in your palm. Place one of the filling balls in the center and carefully wrap the dough around the filling, sealing it completely. Roll it gently into a smooth ball.

  2. 6

    Repeat the Process

Continue to shape the remaining dough and filling into balls, placing them on a floured surface to prevent sticking.

Cook the Tang Yuan

  1. 7

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring a pot of water to a boil. Ensure there is enough water to allow the balls to float freely.

  2. 8

    Cook the Balls

Once the water is boiling, gently drop the Tang Yuan into the pot. Cook for about 5-8 minutes, or until they float to the surface. This indicates they are cooked through.

  3. 9

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the cooked Tang Yuan from the pot and place them into a bowl.

Serve

  1. 10

    Add Toppings

If desired, drizzle syrup over the Tang Yuan and sprinkle with chopped peanuts for extra texture and flavor.

  2. 11

    Enjoy

Serve warm and enjoy your delicious homemade Tang Yuan!
