Method
Making the Dough
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and water. Mix well until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, one teaspoon at a time.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a clean, flat surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it is soft and pliable. Cover the dough with a damp cloth to keep it from drying out.
Preparing the Filling
- 3
Prepare the Filling
In a small bowl, mix the red bean paste and chopped peanuts. If desired, add brown sugar to sweeten the filling. Ensure the mixture is well combined and set aside.
Forming the Tang Yuan
- 4
Shape the Tang Yuan
Divide the dough into equal pieces (about the size of a golf ball). Flatten each piece in your palm, place a small spoonful of the filling in the center, and carefully fold the edges over to seal. Roll it gently in your hands to form a smooth ball.
Cooking the Tang Yuan
- 5
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 6 cups of water to a boil over high heat.
- 6
Cook the Tang Yuan
Once the water is boiling, gently drop the prepared Tang Yuan into the pot. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until they float to the surface, indicating they are cooked through.
- 7
Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the Tang Yuan from the pot and serve them warm. You may serve them in a sweet soup or with a drizzle of syrup if desired.
