Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.

Fold in Add-ins
Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) with a spatula until evenly distributed.
Baking

Prepare Baking Sheets
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Scoop Cookie Dough
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake Cookies
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.

Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
