Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings, about 1/4 inch thick. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until you achieve a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, the oil is ready.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Cool

Use a slotted spoon to remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat the process with the remaining onion rings.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the thin crispy onion rings warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
