Method
Meatballs Preparation
Prepare the Meatball Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
Form the Meatballs
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll the meat mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the Meatballs
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and browned.
Arrabbiata Sauce Preparation
Add Sauce Ingredients
Stir in red pepper flakes, crushed tomatoes, chopped basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
Combine with Meatballs
Once the meatballs are baked, add them to the sauce and simmer for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Hoagies Assembly
Prepare the Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic.
Assemble the Hoagies
Place a few meatballs inside each toasted roll, spoon over arrabbiata sauce, and top with slices of provolone cheese.
Melt the Cheese
Return the assembled hoagies to the broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the provolone cheese is melted and bubbly.
