Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them with butter or non-stick spray and lightly dusting with flour.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. The batter will be thick.
- 5
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, which is normal.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- 8
Make the Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with a mixer until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
- 9
Add Vanilla
Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
- 10
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- 11
Serve and Enjoy
Slice the cake and serve it on individual plates. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
