Method

Preparing the Patty

1

Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork the meat.

2

Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form each into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing while cooking.

Cooking the Patty

3

Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

4

Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, adding the cheddar cheese slices in the last minute of cooking to melt.

Assembling the Burger

5

Prepare the Bun

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger bun in half and toast lightly if desired.

6

Add the Toppings

On the bottom half of the bun, place the lettuce leaf, then the cooked beef patty with melted cheese, followed by a slice of tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard.

7

Finish the Burger

Place the top half of the bun over the toppings, and your classic beef burger is ready to serve.
