Burger Patties

Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Burger Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a burger patty. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging during cooking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness. If using, add cheddar cheese on top of the patty in the last minute of cooking to melt.

  4. 4

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

Chili Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook the Meat and Onions

In a saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey along with the chopped onion until the meat is fully cooked and the onions are translucent. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. 6

    Add Remaining Ingredients

Stir in minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, beef broth, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 7

    Simmer the Chili

Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Burger

Place each cooked burger patty on the bottom half of the toasted bun. Top generously with the prepared chili.

  2. 9

    Top with the Bun

Place the top half of the bun over the chili-topped burger and serve immediately.
