Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Bring Steak to Room Temperature

Remove the New York Strip Steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder evenly on both sides.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

If using a grill, preheat it to high heat (about 450-500°F). If using a skillet, heat it over medium-high heat and add a little olive oil.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the steak on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to get a good sear.

  3. 5

    Flip the Steak

Turn the steak over using tongs and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness.

  4. 6

    Add Optional Ingredients

If desired, during the last minute of cooking, add a sprig of fresh rosemary and a tablespoon of butter on top of the steak for added flavor.

Resting

  1. 7

    Let the Steak Rest

Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 8

    Slice and Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately, optionally garnished with more fresh herbs.
