Assembly Ingredients

Method

Meatball Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into large meatballs, about 2 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then, add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Baking and Assembly

  1. 5

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs on the baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.

  2. 6

    Add Cheese

Remove the meatballs from the oven and sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 7

    Serve on French Bread

Slice the French bread and place the meatballs with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella on top. Serve warm.
