Prepare Basil
Rinse the fresh basil leaves and pat them dry with a paper towel.

Add Garlic and Tomatoes
Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for an additional 1 minute, then add the chopped tomatoes, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and sugar.

Simmer the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until the tomatoes have broken down and the sauce has thickened.

Add Fresh Basil
Stir in the fresh basil leaves and let the sauce cook for another 5 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Serving

Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before serving. It can be served warm over pasta, stored in the refrigerator for up to a week, or frozen for later use.
