Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Chop the onion and garlic finely. Dice the fresh tomatoes into small pieces. Rinse and chop the fresh basil.

Cooking the Meat

  1. 2

    Brown the Ground Beef

In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Making the Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In the same skillet with the browned beef, add olive oil, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Simmer

Add the diced fresh tomatoes to the skillet along with salt, black pepper, sugar, dried oregano, and fresh basil. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 5

    Cook the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Meat Sauce

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot over your favorite pasta, or use it as a base for other dishes.
