Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.

  3. 3

    Cook Pasta

Add 2 cups of pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, or until al dente.

  4. 4

    Drain Pasta

Once the pasta is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and then drain the remaining water from the pasta.

Making the Sauce

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 6

    Sauté Garlic

Mince 3 cloves of garlic and add them to the skillet. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.

  3. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Pour in 1 can of crushed tomatoes and add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 0.5 teaspoons of salt, and 0.25 teaspoons of black pepper. Stir to combine.

  4. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.

Combining Pasta and Sauce

  1. 9

    Combine

Add the drained pasta to the sauce in the skillet and toss to combine, ensuring all pasta is coated with sauce.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve the pasta hot, topped with 0.5 cups of grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves to taste.
