Donut Bread Pudding
Method
Preparation and Assembly
- 1
Prepare the Donuts
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the stale donuts into bite-sized pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
- 2
Make the Custard Mixture
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine and Soak
Pour the custard mixture over the donut pieces, making sure they are well coated. Let them soak for about 15-20 minutes, pressing down occasionally to ensure all pieces are soaked.
- 4
Bake
Dot the top with butter and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- 5
Prepare Salt Toffee Sauce
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 cup of water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Allow it to simmer without stirring until it turns a deep amber color. Remove from heat and carefully whisk in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- 6
Serve
Serve the warm donut bread pudding topped with salt toffee sauce, a dollop of whipped cream, and a scoop of butter pecan ice cream.
