Method

Pickles Preparation

  1. 1

    Drain and Slice

Drain the dill pickles from their brine and slice them into thick coins (about 1/4 inch thick).

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Buttermilk

Slowly add the buttermilk to the dry mixture, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

  3. 6

    Fry Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Ranch Dressing Preparation

  1. 8

    Mix Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and well mixed.

  2. 9

    Chill Dressing

Refrigerate the ranch dressing for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
