Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with a mixer until creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Cocoa Powder

Mix in the cocoa powder until fully combined.

  3. 10

    Incorporate Powdered Sugar

Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk, beating until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

  4. 11

    Finish with Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract until well blended.

  5. 12

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of frosting on top, and then place the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake as desired.
