Method
Preparing the Pork
- 1
Season the Pork
Rub the pork shoulder with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Ensure the pork is evenly coated with the spices.
- 2
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the meat is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Making the BBQ Sauce
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, mustard, salt, and black pepper.
- 4
Cook the Sauce
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 5
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Discard any excess fat.
- 6
Mix with BBQ Sauce
Add the shredded pork back to the slow cooker and pour the BBQ sauce over it. Stir to combine and let it heat through for about 10 minutes.
- 7
Toast the Buns
While the pork is heating, toast the burger buns on a grill or in the oven until golden brown.
- 8
Assemble the Sandwich
Place a generous portion of the BBQ pulled pork on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles, then place the top half of the bun over it.
