Topping (Optional)

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add macaroni pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Slowly pour in the milk while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Cook for 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining and Baking (Optional)

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.

  2. 9

    Prepare for Baking

If desired, transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

  3. 10

    Add Topping

In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese together. Sprinkle this mixture over the macaroni and cheese.
