Method
Instructions for Preparing Asheville Hot Fried Chicken & Ranch Melt
- 1
Prepare the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breasts and let them marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).
- 2
Make the Seasoned Flour Mix
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Fry the Chicken
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from the marinade, letting excess buttermilk drip off, then dredge in the seasoned flour mixture. Fry chicken for about 6-8 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 4
Assemble the Melt
On a slice of bread, layer fried chicken, cheddar cheese, leafy greens, and a generous amount of ranch dressing. Top with another slice of bread.
- 5
- 6
Serve
Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately with extra ranch dressing on the side.
