1. Prepare the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, honey, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
2. Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from marinade, dredge in flour, shaking off excess. Fry chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
3. Cook the Bacon
In the same skillet, cook the diced bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
4. Make the Gravy
Add butter to the bacon drippings and melt. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened. Stir in basil and season with salt and pepper.
5. Prepare the Biscuits (optional)
For quick biscuits, mix baking powder, flour, salt, and butter until crumbly. Add buttermilk and stir until just combined. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15-20 minutes.
