Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Bacon

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel to drain the excess fat. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.

  2. 2

    Sauté Onions and Peppers

In the same skillet, using the bacon drippings, add diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cooking the Hash Browns

  1. 3

    Prepare the Hash Browns

In a large mixing bowl, combine the frozen hash browns with salt and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

  2. 4

    Cook Hash Browns

Heat vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned hash browns in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes without stirring until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.

  3. 5

    Flip the Hash Browns

Using a spatula, carefully flip the hash browns over and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the other side is golden brown and crispy.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 6

    Layer the Toppings

Once the hash browns are cooked, evenly sprinkle the sautéed onions, bell peppers, crumbled bacon, and sharp cheddar cheese over the top.

  2. 7

    Melt the Cheese

Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Allow to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.

  3. 8

    Serve

Once the cheese is melted, remove from heat. Serve hot and enjoy your loaded hash browns!
