Preparing the Grilled Cheese

Butter the Bread
Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of whole wheat bread.

Assemble the Sandwich
Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in a skillet over medium heat. Layer with two slices of American cheese or two slices of sharp cheddar cheese. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.

Grill the Sandwich
Cook the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Add Salt
Sprinkle a little salt on the grilled cheese sandwich for added flavor.

Cut and Serve
Remove the sandwich from the skillet, cut it in half, and serve warm.

While the sandwich is grilling, prepare your sides. Place 1 cup of potato chips and 1 cup of apple slices on a plate.
