Dough for Pretzels

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add salt and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Once risen, punch the dough down and divide it into 2 pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.

  4. 4

    Boil the Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Add the baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 5

    Bake the Pretzels

Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse sea salt and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Cheese Sauce

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in milk and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add cheddar cheese, stirring until melted. Season with garlic powder, paprika, and salt to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the baked pretzels warm with house cheese sauce and Cajun mustard.
