Method
Smoothie Base
Prepare fruit
Peel the bananas. Reserve half a banana (about 0.5 piece) for garnish or slice it and freeze ahead if you prefer a thicker texture. Chop the remaining 1–1.5 bananas into large chunks so they blend easily.
Combine liquids and protein
Pour 1 cup pineapple juice and 1 cup skim milk into a high-speed blender. Add 1 scoop whey protein powder. Blend briefly (5–10 seconds) on low to combine the protein with the liquids and avoid dry powder clumps.
Creamy/Frozen Component
Add frozen yogurt and fruit
Add 1 cup nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt and the chopped banana pieces to the blender.
Add ice for chill and texture
Add 4 ice cubes to the blender. If you used a frozen banana instead of fresh, reduce ice to 2 cubes to avoid over-diluting.
Blend to smoothie
Secure the lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds or until the mixture is smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides once with a spatula if needed. If the smoothie is too thick, add pineapple juice or milk 1–2 tablespoons at a time until desired consistency is reached. If too thin, add a few more ice cubes or 2 tablespoons more frozen yogurt and re-blend.
Optional Add-ins & Garnish
Sweeten and spice (optional)
Taste the smoothie. If you want it sweeter, add 1 teaspoon honey or agave and blend briefly to incorporate. Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon into the blender and pulse once or twice to distribute the flavor.
Serve
Pour the smoothie into a tall glass. Garnish with a banana slice on the rim or floated on top. Serve immediately with a straw.
