Smoothie Base

Method

Smoothie Base

1

Prepare fruit

Hull the strawberries and, if using fresh pineapple, core and cut into roughly 1-inch chunks so they blend easily. Measure ingredients so everything is ready.

2

Add base ingredients to blender

Place the strawberries, pineapple chunks, shredded coconut, plain fresh yogurt, and nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt into a high-speed blender.

3

Add liquids and sweetener

Pour in 1 cup cold water or coconut water, add 1 teaspoon honey or agave syrup, and 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice if using. The liquid amount controls thickness; reduce to 1/2 cup for a thicker smoothie.

4

Blend to smooth

Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides once if needed, until the mixture is uniformly smooth and creamy. If too thick, add up to an additional 1/4 cup water in 2-tablespoon increments and blend again.

5

Adjust texture and chill

If you want a colder, thicker texture, add the optional 4 ice cubes and blend again until crushed and incorporated (about 15–30 seconds). Taste and adjust sweetness with another 1/2 teaspoon honey or agave if desired.

Garnish & Serve

6

Pour the smoothie into two tall glasses (about 12–14 oz capacity each).

7

Garnish each glass with a pineapple wedge and half a strawberry on the rim and sprinkle a small pinch (about 1 teaspoon total) of toasted shredded coconut over the top.

8

Serve immediately with a wide straw.
