Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined. Form into meatballs about 2 inches in diameter.

Ragu Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Ragu Sauce

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.

Cooking the Meatballs

  1. 3

    Slow Cook the Meatballs

Add the prepared meatballs to the ragu sauce, cover, and let it cook on low heat for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 4

    Cook the Spaghetti

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Serving

  1. 5

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti, top with the meatballs and ragu sauce. Garnish with shaved parmesan and fresh basil leaves.
