Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, milk, and melted butter. Stir until a dough begins to form.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Muffins

After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out circles.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the cut muffins on a floured baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Cook the Muffins

Preheat a griddle or skillet over low to medium heat. Cook each muffin for about 6-7 minutes on each side until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the muffins from the skillet and let them cool on a wire rack. Split and toast before serving.
