For the Chicken Fried Steak
Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Steak
Begin by tenderizing the beef round steak. Use a meat mallet to pound it to about 1/2 inch thickness. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- 2
Bread the Steak
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of salt. In another dish, whisk together the buttermilk and eggs. First, dip the steak into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk mixture, and finally back into the flour mixture to coat it well.
- 3
Fry the Steak
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the steak and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil.
