Method

Steak and Vegetables

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Season the ribeye steak with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 2

    Cook the Steak

In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once hot, add the steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. Remove from skillet and let it rest.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Onions and Peppers

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.

Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Make the Roux

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes until golden.

  2. 5

    Add Milk and Cheese

Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Bring to a simmer and let it thicken slightly. Stir in the cream cheese until melted, followed by the cheddar cheese. Mix until smooth.

  3. 6

    Season the Sauce

Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the cheese sauce. Stir well to combine.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Slice the Steak

Once the steak has rested, slice it thinly against the grain.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Sandwich

In each hoagie roll, layer the sliced steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and drizzle with the cheese sauce. Serve immediately.
