Onion Rings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Milk and Egg

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until fully combined. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be slightly lumpy.

Breading the Onion Rings

  1. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring in the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Then roll the battered onion ring in the bread crumbs until fully coated.

  2. 5

    Preheat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Frying

  1. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully add the breaded onion rings to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  2. 7

    Drain and Cool

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with a pinch of salt while still hot.
