Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the meatballs for 25 minutes or until cooked through and browned.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15 minutes. Stir in chopped basil just before serving.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare Sub Rolls

Slice the sub rolls lengthwise but not all the way through, leaving a hinge.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Sub

Place 2-3 meatballs in each sub roll, spoon marinara sauce over the top, and sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. 8

    Melt Cheese

Place the assembled subs under a broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 9

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool for a minute, and serve hot.
