Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Curds

Take the cheese curds and set them aside in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to ensure even distribution of spices.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Wet Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the Cheese Curds

Dredge the cheese curds in the flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. Then dip them into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, and back into the flour mixture. Repeat this process with all cheese curds.

  3. 6

    Fry the Cheese Curds

Carefully place a few coated cheese curds into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until they are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 7

    Serve

Serve the crispy cheese curd basket warm, with optional ranch dressing and hot sauce on the side for dipping.
