Directions for Southern Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich
1. Prepare the Chicken
Marinate the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
2. Make the Hot Honey
In a small saucepan, combine honey and red pepper flakes over low heat. Stir until well mixed and heated through. Set aside.
3. Prepare the Breading
In a large bowl, mix together flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
4. Fry the Chicken
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture. Fry chicken for about 6-8 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
5. Assemble the Sandwich
Spread garlic aioli on the bottom half of the brioche bun, add fried chicken, drizzle with hot honey, layer with pimento cheese, dill pickles, and red onions. Top with the other half of the bun.
6. Serve
Serve immediately with your choice of side.
