Peel the Spanish onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch wide. Separate the rings and set aside.

Prepare the Onions

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients and mix until you have a smooth batter.

Make the Batter

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Heat the Oil

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring they are well-coated. Let any excess batter drip off.

Coat the Onions

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Fry the Onion Rings

Serve the onion loaf hot, drizzled with TR's Original BBQ sauce or served on the side for dipping.
