Method
Preparing the Bread
- 1
Slice the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Brush each slice of bread with olive oil on both sides and place on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes or until golden and toasted. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Preparing the Topping
- 3
Dice the Tomatoes
While the bread is toasting, wash and finely dice the tomatoes. Remove the seeds if desired for less moisture.
- 4
Chop the Basil
Wash the fresh basil leaves and chop them finely.
- 5
Mince the Garlic
Peel and mince the garlic cloves.
- 6
Combine the Topping Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Bruschetta
- 7
Top the Toasted Bread
Spoon the tomato mixture generously over each toasted slice of bread.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and drizzle with a little more olive oil if desired. Serve immediately.
