Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Muddle the Mint and Sugar

In a sturdy glass, add the fresh mint leaves and granulated sugar. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently press down on the mint leaves to release their oils, mixing them with the sugar. Be careful not to tear the leaves too much.

  2. 2

    Add Lime Juice

Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into the glass. You can also drop one half of the lime into the glass for added flavor. Stir the mixture gently to combine the lime juice with the muddled mint and sugar.

Mixing and Serving

  1. 3

    Add the Rum

Pour in the white rum over the muddled mixture. Stir gently to mix the rum with the mint, lime, and sugar.

  2. 4

    Add Ice

Fill the glass with ice cubes, leaving some space at the top for the soda water.

  3. 5

    Top with Soda Water

Pour the soda water over the ice and the mixture in the glass. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.

  4. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint or a lime wedge on the rim of the glass. Serve immediately with a straw if desired.
