Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin; this is normal.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven, and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Add the cocoa powder and mix until well blended.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the confectioners' sugar, alternating with the milk, mixing until you reach a smooth and spreadable consistency.

  3. 10

    Add Vanilla

Stir in the vanilla extract and mix until incorporated.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
