1. Cook the Pasta
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. Make the Cheese Sauce
In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the mixture is smooth and thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Add Cheese and Seasoning
Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, mixing well.
4. Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce
Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is evenly coated.
5. Optional Breadcrumb Topping
If desired, transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and broil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
6. Serve
Serve warm and enjoy your creamy macaroni and cheese!
