Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  2. 2

    Add Remaining Ingredients

Add the cooked quinoa, rolled oats, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Ensure they are compact and hold their shape.

  4. 4

    Cook Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the whole wheat burger buns lightly in the same skillet after the patties are cooked.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer the cooked veggie patty, followed by shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and avocado. Top with ketchup and mustard to taste, and place the other half of the bun on top.

  3. 7

    Serve

Serve the veggie burgers immediately with your choice of side or on their own.
