Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Spaghetti

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  2. 3

    Add Garlic and Beef

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 4

    Combine with Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and reduce heat to low.

  4. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens. Add chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Serving the Dish

  1. 6

    Plate the Spaghetti

Divide the drained spaghetti among serving plates. Top with the Bolognese sauce and garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
